Peter Tessier: The slow decline to nothing The Jets host the Canucks tonight as they wind down the season, slowly and into inevitable decline.

Time for Chevy to hit the road, not enough progress imo.

if Poolman's injury will keep him out the rest of this year than obviously from his perspective their is absolutely no rush to sign now cause he will not be able to play and burn a year off his ELC. I read through your article kinda quick so if i missed that, my bad. If you didn't mention it, your bad.

I know he's injured or rather realized after and had that 'oopsie' feeling but here's the thing- why not get it done??

I think they will, if I had to guess, I'd say within a week or so. The injury changes things, its not like Boesner in the sense where you want him in the line up as soon as possible to get the experience and play as many NHL games as possible.

This is a sad article Peter. I am very optimistic about the Jets future and was expecting this result this year. The only thing that all this losing has established is that there are lots of fair weather fans in this city. I think many "hockey fans" in this city don't really understand hockey. The diehards will always root for this team and will have realistic expectations. The sad thing is that TNSE is raising ticket prices when the provincial government is telling us to stop living lavish lifestyles. By the way it astonished me that the folks in Manitoba voted for the Conservatives, the same ones that cost us the original Jets. It looks like the new ones don't care for the Jets either based on their views of TNSE. That is a story for a different day.

I do think the Jets need and I mean NEED to make a major trade this offseason. I think we should try to get Tavares from the Islanders. We could easily offer them Little, Roslovic, and a first to get it done.

Just my thoughts....

I actually think Chevy is one of the premier GMs in the league. I also think this team can't play as a unit and that falls on the coach. People in Vancouver like to rag on Willie Desjardins because they're ignorant, they've been calling for his head since we lost in the playoffs to Calgary. I've got a ton of respect for Paul Maurice as a coach but I'll bet my house the Jets don't make it back to the playoffs with him behind the bench.

Laine could still win the calder. Matthews is slumping and there could end up being some vote splitting in Toronto.

Hockey is a business above all else. There are so many factors that go into making a trade (esp. for a superstar like Tavares). The Jets and the Isles make interesting trade partners because they are so different. With the financial investment the Isles made in Ladd, he's not going anywhere. If he could rekindle some magic with Little, I think that's a worthwhile proposition. The question becomes is it worth Roslovic and a first for one year of Tavares? They can't afford to resign Tavares to the 8-year $80M deal he's gonna get and resign Trouba, Morrissey, Ehlers, Lowry and all the other RFAs that are gonna get big raises.

I can see a trade around the framework of Tavares for Little and Myers working well for both teams. The Isles don't want futures in return for Tavares with so many long term deals already in place, so if Tavares is to be traded, Winnipeg is well positioned to get him.

Little and Myers for Tavares? that doesn't make any sense.

I would keep Little, Roslovic, and our 1st and go without Tavares.

Scheifele is already better than JT. Little hasn't been far behind the two of them lately. Roslovic may well be better than Little before Little's current deal ends.

Tavares is going to be a $9+ million player on a 7-8 year deal with only 2 seasons on said deal where he would be considered in his prime. Baaaaad move for a team like the Jets, whom are young to the degree that Tavares would be both hitting 30 and ruining our chances at keeping RFAs long term in the middle of our cup window.

Yes, I believe PT is correct and there is some cynicism and apathy starting to creep in for some fans. I could be fingered as one of those cynics. But, it just kind of burns my hotplate that Chevy stands up how many years ago at the end of one of the seasons and proclaims Andre Pavelec as the #1. How many years ago was it? Then, they stick him in the minors this year and go with developing goalies. Just a waste of money ever since they re-signed Pavelec, and no apparent plan or will to try and better this position somehow. Like I said previous, Edmonton traded for Talbot and he has helped that team immensely.

Fleury, Bishop, Miller, (please don't sign Halack).

Another note, going back a few games, how about that Wayne Simmonds? He is quite the grinder and scorer. He would look good in a Jet uni. He has just impressed me everytime I watch Philly this year.

You have to keep Roslovic (gotta keep the centre) and Connor. After them, who can you you trade, Petan? along with draft picks? I like Petan, but there just doesn't seem to be room here at the moment.

Wow, I respectfully disagree with the above quote in addition to your suggestion Wpg fans are fickle. I don't quite agree as I believe the fans here are just a bit too educated, in both hockey and politics, but with regards to hockey, ppl are starting to question the moves or lack of moves to improve areas that have been obvious since day 1. Just like what happened in Edmonton, the loyal fans started to revolt. They got the catalyst (McDavid) and a few other pieces now to help their team, but were they also considered "fickle" when they were tossing jerseys on the ice or just letting the steam of frustration escape? I think it was the frustration of educated fans letting the steam or pressure escape, imop.
